Bill Serne: Special Assembly

Bill Serne, a St Pete Times photo journalist, entertained K-4 students in two separate assemblies this week. Mr Serne is a Shorecrest dad. The children were awed by the power of his photographs and quickly learned what qualified as a "feature" photo.

A natural with young children, Mr Serne had their attention riveted to the slide show, and teachers listened to audible "oohs" and "aahs" as the children reacted to his work. He shared slides of three major areas: animals from Florida to South Africa, sports, and underwater subjects. The young children who asked him how he had time to take all the photographs were surprised to learn that it is his actual job which he loves very much!

Mr Serne engaged the children in dialogue, as well; and as one student noted that a picture of a sailboat docked looked like the dock where he lived, Mr Serne replied, genuinely interested, "Really" and began to move to the next slide. A little surprised voice could be heard saying, I think that IS where I live!" Thank you, Mr Serne!
