VICTORY MEDAL The Victory Medal (also called the Allied Victory Medal) is a campaign medal - of which the basic design and ribbon was adopted by Belgium, Brazil, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Romania, Siam, Union of South Africa and the USA.
The medal was issued to all those who received the 1914 Star or the 1914-15 Star, and to most of those who were awarded the British War Medal - it was never awarded singly. These three medals were sometimes irreverently referred to as Pip, Squeak and Wilfred |

YAD VASHEM
Righteous Among the Nations is an official title awarded by Yad Vashem on behalf of the State of Israel and the Jewish people to non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. The title is awarded by a special commission headed by a Supreme Court Justice according to a well-defined set of criteria and regulations.
Ruth Nussbaum moved to the Netherlands from Germany and during the war was living in Arnhem. Through acquaintances in the Social Democratic Party, she was introduced to Cato Serne-de Jong, a widow who also lived in Arnhem. From the summer of 1942 until the evacuation of Arnhem in September 1944, Ruth was able to hide in Cato's attic. Cato's son was the only person who knew about the hidden Jew and fully supported his mother. During her years in hiding, Cato always made sure that Ruth had enough food. She managed to obtain extra ration coupons from the underground and also purchased food on the black market. Ruth shared the expenses but Cato assured the fugitive that she should not worry if her money ran out. Cato never wanted to hear a word of gratitude. She always said: "One has to help where one can." Cato and Ruth developed a very warm friendship that continued until Cato's death in 1975.
On February 6, 1986, Yad Vashem recognized Cato Serne-de Jong as Righteous Among the Nations.
